Air New Zealand was one of the first companies in the world to partner with Apple to launch a flagship app for the Apple Watch.

Project Overview

This project was a fantastic challenge; refactoring the core Air NZ app experience into a much smaller form factor, and making the interface familiar, yet distinct to this newly released device. The experience became an extension of the core mobile app functionality, where customers are able to view their flight information, scan their boarding pass, and order coffee when in the Koru lounge.

Because of the secrecy surrounding the release of the Apple Watch, we were initially unable to design and develop on an actual device. This required us to work with lo-fi prototypes for the majority of the design phase. Once Apple were happy with our approach, the team was invited to Apple HQ in Cupertino to complete the work and begin testing on an actual watch. On release, the app was featured on the Apple Watch landing page.

Due to customer demand, we subsequently designed and developed a version for Android also.
