Tourism New Zealand were looking to create an extension of their information-rich website for travellers to find the best NZ experiences and tips once they have arrived in the country.

Project Overview

The Essential NZ app contains the Top 10 attractions recommended by Tourism NZ, information on regional destinations, detailed maps, as well as listings for hundreds of attractions.

It also includes a My Trip service that enables users to create a personalised list of destinations and attractions. The app is an important extension to the TNZ digital ecosystem as it continues the newzealand.com journey to an in-country experience.

Interviews and testing with visitors to New Zealand were central to the creation of this app, allowing us to gather an intimate understanding of visitors’ in-country planning processes and smartphone usage.

The majority of the app’s functionality also works offline. This ensures visitors can use the app anywhere, anytime and without concern for expensive data roaming costs.
